NJB All-Net 15U, Palama gym
Barely averted a forfeit in our 2:00 pm game. Mahalo to Chase for asking his friend Raydyn to be our fifth man. Our new 15U players — Raydyn, Chase and Jhayveen — did pretty well considering they've had only one practice. (None for Raydyn.)
We missed a lot of open shots and layups — a result of lack of practice time. This is why we always stress shooting the ball every day. Gabriel was still under the weather, and with no subs, our guys wore out but kept playing hard.
There's a good chemistry already with Chase, who is really crafty with the ball, and all three new guys are unselfish. Good to see!
Raydyn is one of those guys who is hard to explain, a big guy with good handles who can blow past guys from the top of the key. He's strong inside and blocks shots, too. Jhay is going to be solid with some rep work, but like Raydyn and Chase, he has a good feel for the game.
We had a lot of missing players again. Kapaa and Kanehe still healing up from injuries. Tai had his championship football game. Other guys, don't know for sure.
I heard different things from some of our guys, but if I don't know where you are, please contact me (551-1054) BEFORE the game when you can't play. When the rest of the team asks where their missing guys are, they deserve an answer.
It's sad that our 15U has been hit hard by injuries, illness, departures and lack of commitment, but nothing will break us. We will stick together as a team. The guys who want to be at practice and games are the only ones we can focus on. Hopefully, everybody else gets back in the flow real soon.
Today's lineup: Sierra Murobayashi, Gabriel Porras, Chase Santos, Raydyn Kaleikini, Jhayveen Ong.
Mahalo to Kali‘a for helping on the bench, and mahalo to Felcris for shooting the game video.
NEXT: Sunday, 10:00 am - Thunder vs. OpenCourt A (OBL 15U), Manoa gym.
