It is, in essence, the original Beautiful Game. While the design is wonderful DNA, the guts of the system is work ethic. Like anything else, nothing worth working for is acquired without blood, sweat and tears, and not necessarily in this order.
majority of the shots are short or off left, if you watch most of the follow through are well below there chin or only make it up to the chin. in stead of having a swing shot, meaning a slinger and you watch the follow through going left, the ball is going left. I know how the shot is going to miss as soon as i see the release. the ones that goes in or goes straight are the ones that release high and straight.
A tip is that they have to hold the follow through until the ball hits the rim. and if its not going straight then look at there follow through. Is that index or middle finger pointing to the center of the rim or that net ring? Hold that follow through until the ball hits the rim and you can even emphasis holding that left hand up also. I do shooting clinics for my teammates on thursday nights. we pass the ball slow to each other and work on the quality of shots instead of quantity of shots. Meaning they shoot to make 10 shots or take 15 shots from a spot and every shot they have to hold there follow through up as well as work on foot work. Once they shoot that shot and hold out everything then they get set to catch the ball and we do it again. It may take longer but eventually it will be natural once the game time. Work on the fundamentals and the shots will be natural. Every shot that your kids shoot they should hold there follow through up until it hits the rim. especially at this young age.
But these kids are already above the rest and i do see that they are working on those tips you give them as guidance. Keep it up and you will create better Jimmy Miyasaka's in the Hawaii HS basketball world.
